Post Salon for men isn't pulling any punches - 01-11-2007, 10:33 AM

The concept is simple enough at Knockouts Haircuts for Men. Customers step into the ring for a haircut from a 'specially chosen staff of attractive female hairstylists' wearing tight T-shirts and shorts.
Plus, there's free beer.
Knockouts has opened its first Tarrant County location, at 900 E. Copeland Road in Arlington. Another franchise will open in Southlake by the end of the month.
The Irving-based company opened its first location in Addison in 2003, Chief Executive Tom Friday said.
Friday, whose wife, Karin, is president of the company, said Knockouts' target audience is men ages 37-60 who want more service than they'd get during a typical walk-in haircut but who aren't planning a day at the spa.
'We're a full-service salon,' Friday said.
'We do haircutting, but we [also] do coloring, we do waxing, we do massage, we do manicures and pedicures for men.'
Despite the double meaning of the name and the boxing-girl outfits, Friday said, Knockouts is 'just a professional setting where you can get an excellent haircut.'
'We really tell [the stylists] not to flirt.'
The cost of a cut ranges from $15 to $25. The top-of-the-line offering is the Heavyweight Haircut -- shampoo, haircut, re-shampoo and conditioning with a head massage.
A typical low-cost operation wants a cut completed in about 12 minutes, Friday said, but Knockouts encourages its stylists to take 25 to 30 minutes per customer.
'We tell the girls to take their time, and because of their service, they get better tips,' Friday said.
Friday said plenty of men use the waxing service to remove unwanted hair.
'Our No. 1 request as far as waxing goes? A guy will come in and say, 'Hey, I'm on the first date after my divorce and I've got to get my back waxed.''
